Alternatives to Beef BBQ Hamburgers: Do You Believe in Salmon?

Salmon Burgers

Salmon? Is the word salmon in the title? You better believe it, and my mission is to show you just how delicious that word is in BBQ terms.

Everyone has their own thoughts about what defines BBQ and what BBQ is. From what they see in their heads to what they cook on their own BBQs. Every experience is different, especially for a deep lover of BBQ dishes.

  • Some think BBQ pit with coals. Coals as white as snow. That smell of smoke. That smell of burning coals.
  • Some think of a grill. Lines on the meat, chicken, vegetables. A big, grey propane tank sitting on the side.
  • Some think of BBQ sauce. The sound of the meat sizzling. Crackling.

That is what some feel is BBQ. No matter which of these someone smells or feels, BBQ is on its own just DELICIOUS.

So, back to my original statement: salmon. We will set the taste aside (although I will mention it is INCREDIBLE tasting…) But back to the basics. How do you prepare salmon burgers? Basically the same way you prepare beef patties, and here are some simple steps.

Like with beef patties, take the meat and shape and season it outside of the BBQ before adding it to the grill. Small piece of advice: form the patties with wet hands. To figure out the best way to season the patties, here is actually a great recipe for Seattle Salmon Burgers

Once the patties are done, place them on the grill. Another piece of advice: don’t press down on the patties. It squeezes out the juices and dries out the patties. Instead, just place them, let them cook and flip when appropriate.

Aside from how incredible it tastes, and the same easy way to prepare it, what is the reason for trying salmon burgers over beef? Think of it as an alternative to meat for those who do not like to eat it.

That was the main reason I tried it because a close friend didn’t want beef and brought the salon instead. And. It. Was. Great. There aren’t as many options for those who don’t like to eat meat as compared to those who do. So, why not find something as delicious as meat in general and add a yummy twist to it with some salmon?

Not sure about fish? Let me tell you something from my own taste buds. Salmon is not a harsh tasting fish. It is a very light taste. In the patty form, it actually tastes a tiny bit like lobster at the end, and the texture was perfect.

If you like ANY kinds of fish, you’ll love it. If you like kinda fish, you’ll love it. If you don’t like fish, I’m pretty sure you’ll still love it.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear from new tasters of BBQ’d salmon. Become a believer with me.
