Hosting a BBQ party

Springs and summers will never be complete unless you have everyone gathered round in your backyard to enjoy chitchats, catch up and bond with one another. I’ve always find it a pleasure to host a barbecue party for my friends and family. Just the sound of their laughter and seeing children have a great time makes me really feel how blessed I am. Of course, hosting this get-together does not come easily. I’d usually hold it on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and the week before that I’d make sure everything is ready for the big day. Read on and find out my tips if you want to host a successful barbecue party.

1. Plan the guest list

Make sure your guest list is ready before you start planning everything. Your guest list will determine how many people are coming on your party and from this you’ll know the amount of food that you need to prepare. If you think a large crowd is coming over, you might want to opt for the generic cuisines cooked in large amount, while for a small and intimate gathering, go for only a handful yet really special dishes. What’s important is you have the adequate estimate so you can shop for just the right amount of ingredients when you hit the aisles.

A word of advice from Reader’s Digest: Don’t make it difficult for you to plan out the event by picking elaborate menus. Instead go for simple yet delectable menus that will serve their purpose of filling everyone’s tummy while satiating the palace.

2. Get your cold beverages ready

Nothing beats a warm, late-afternoon gathering than a glass of ice-cold drink. So get your ice ready or chill those bottles and fill everyone’s glass with refreshing thirst quenchers. While some guests would prefer a bottle of cold beer, others are OK with a bowl of fruit punch, see to it that you have as many varieties of drink available to make everyone happy.

3. Prepare some party games

Nothing beats a barbecue party with loads and loads of surprise! Make the event more exciting by preparing party games. This could range from outdoor sports where everyone will have to skip and hop, or simple board games and cards. If it’s a sunny afternoon, perhaps, everyone will be delighted to stay under the shade with a glass of ice-cold tea at hand, playing cards while exchanging chitchats. Party games are great way to keep boredom at bay and get everyone involved, writes Eventeve.com.

4. Choose the right location

Your choice of location will have something to do to make or break your barbecue. Choose a spot where it’s shady, safe and convenient for everyone. Consider the following tips when determining your barbeque party location.

  • Don’t choose windy location since this could cause draft.
  • Adequate space should be given for the barbecue grill.
  • Don’t place the barbecue grill near plants, fences or wooden structures, least, you are at risk of catching fire.
  • Although there’s nothing wrong in holding the barbecue on the lawn, it would be safer however if you choose a solid or concrete ground. That way, it’s easier to clean the mess afterwards.

5. Shop wisely

Always watch out for sale, so you’ll have to spend less on paper plates, utensils, food and beverages. Shop in bulk to save more. According to Chandi Burnette of Idealhomegarden.com, warehouses and discounts superstores offer value for money purchases when shopping for drinks, so you might want to stop over these places when buying beer, wine or sodas.
